Put it in the drawer

Look, we know you work at lastminute.com, but if you really want to produce writing that has clout, you have to work a little ahead of time.

Because the best writers in the world know that writing needs time to percolate a little – and that great writing is in the rewriting. And when you’ve just written something, you need some time away from it to be able to edit it effectively.

So try this – next time you have a report due, try to finish it a day or two in advance. Yes, we know… But try! And then sleep on it and edit it the next day. Suddenly a whole lot of things should start to make sense – you’ll move a paragraph and a whole section will be transformed, or you’ll see repetitions or gaps.

Put it in a virtual drawer, and let it sit for a while – it’ll make all the difference.
